  • Salary £65,000 to £80,000 depending on experience.

Dragon is seeking a highly experienced and technically skilled Process Safety Lead to join our team. The Process Safety Lead will provide visible leadership and deep technical expertise in process safety management, supporting the wider HSE function. The role holder will lead the development and implementation of the organisation’s process safety framework, ensuring risks associated with major accident hazards are effectively identified, assessed, and controlled.
The Process Safety Lead will act as the subject matter expert on process safety, supporting both operational and project activities, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements (including COMAH), and embedding a strong, proactive safety culture across the organisation.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Driving Process Safety Excellence – Leading the development and implementation of the Process Safety Management (PSM) framework, ensuring robust controls for major accident hazards.
  •  Risk Assessment & Hazard Studies – Facilitating HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, SIL, and other risk assessment methodologies, translating outputs into effective risk controls and improvements.
  • Barrier & Asset Integrity Management – Defining and monitoring safety critical elements (SCEs), barrier health, and asset integrity performance to ensure safe operating conditions.
  • Process Safety in Projects – Providing expert process safety input across all project lifecycle stages, ensuring integration into design, engineering, and execution activities.
  • Management of Change (MoC) – Governing and supporting MoC processes to ensure risks are identified, assessed, and effectively controlled.
  • Incident Investigation & Learning – Leading or supporting investigations into process safety events, ensuring root cause analysis is applied and learnings are embedded across the organisation.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Assurance – Supporting COMAH compliance, safety report development, and engagement with regulators, ensuring adherence to legislation and best practice.
  • Performance Monitoring & Improvement – Developing and tracking process safety KPIs, identifying trends, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Human Factors & Alarm Management – Supporting integration of human factors into design and operations, and contributing to effective alarm management strategies.
  • Leadership & Capability Development – Advising the Leadership Team, mentoring colleagues, and promoting a strong process safety culture across the organisation.
  • Emergency Preparedness – Supporting development and continuous improvement of emergency response plans in line with COMAH requirements.

Key Skills & Experience:

  • Educated to a degree level in Process Engineering.
  • Significant experience in process safety within a high hazard industry.
  • Strong technical knowledge of process safety management and COMAH regulations.
  • Experience supporting projects across full lifecycle stages (design through to commissioning).
  • Experience working within an HSE function, including environmental management systems.
  • Competent in risk assessment, risk management techniques, and root cause analysis.
  • Ability to lead, influence, and engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
