More Award Success for Dragon LNG

Dragon LNG has once again been recognised at a national level for the work carried out by the Dragon LNG Darwin Centre Experience. 

Alexis Fletcher, Managing Director of Dragon LNG and Ted Sangster, Chairman of the Darwin Centre, attended the Awards Ceremony for the STEM Inspiration Awards.  Held at the House of Lords, London on 5th November, and hosted by Lord Sainsbury, the awards celebrate the companies and individuals who inspire young people to pursue science, ​technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).   Dragon LNG and the Darwin Centre Experience received a Highly Commended award for the work done throughout Pembrokeshire in the Innovation in STEM Inspiration category.

The Dragon LNG Darwin Centre Experience, established in 2005 as a partnership between Dragon LNG, The Darwin Centre, Pembrokeshire College and Pembrokeshire County Council, delivers hundreds of hands-on field trips and experiential workshops, engaging over 3,000 participants every year. During the 14 years it has been running the programme has worked with over 42,000 individuals. Every school in Pembrokeshire has access to free field trips and workshops each year on themes such as rocky shores, climate change, marine litter, forces, and renewable energy.  There are also numerous family and public events run each year alongside the schools’ programme with topics including Sea Level Rise, Biometeorology, Evolution, and Exploring the Universe.

Alexis said ‘I was honoured to be invited to London to receive this award with Ted and it is testament to the effort and impact of the Darwin Centre Experience that 14 years on the project is still being recognised for the positive impact on pupils in Pembrokeshire’    

The Awards ceremony was organised by STEM Learning, the largest provider of education and careers support in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).  Supported by a unique partnership of Government, charitable trusts and employers, STEM Learning are dedicated to raising young people’s engagement and achievement in STEM subjects and careers.
