Community Work

Dragon LNG is committed to being a productive and proactive member of its community and to bringing economic benefits to Pembrokeshire communities for decades to come. A community support group made up of volunteers from our employees has been instrumental in helping the many local youth teams and organisations that have benefited from Dragon LNG’s support. Many of our staff are involved in fundraising for worthwhile causes as well as taking an interest in our community support programme.

As well as helping many local charities and organisations, here at Dragon LNG we target our main corporate support on youth development and training under the remit of the Dragon LNG Darwin Experience. This exciting programme is designed to help children discover the wonders of science and technology leading them to consider careers in those sectors. The programme covers all junior and senior schools in Pembrokeshire, together with community and youth groups.

Our Dragon LNG Darwin experience started as a one year trial project in 2005 during Dragon LNG's construction phase. The programme has expanded into all Pembrokshire schools, many of the children who first enjoyed a darwin experience are now in University. This year the project welcomed back  one of our early students into the team to help us deliver science and into schools. Growing constantly over the last 6 years, and ensuring links and support of the national curriculum, the project has recently expanded past the boundaries of Pembrokeshire, linking with overseas schools and other areas. It is run in conjunction with the Darwin Centre and Pembrokeshire College and with full encouragement and support from the local education authority Pembrokeshire County Council.

Each week, updates on the Dragon LNG Darwin Experience activitIes in schools and the community can be heard on Radio Pembrokeshire, delighting familes, teachers and friends who listen in to hear what creepy, slimy, thrilling and exciting discoveries have been made as children are encouraged though their school and our Dragon LNG Darwin Experience to have fun exploring the scientific and natural environment.
