LNG Carriers

Working with Milford Haven Port Authority, - the regulatory authority for the Milford Haven Waterway - Dragon LNG will ensure shipping operations are carried out safely with minimum disruption to other port users.

Liquefied natural gas is delivered to our terminal in Milford Haven by LNG carriers. These are specially constructed vessels that are double-hulled and specifically designed to handle the low temperature of liquefied natural gas. The storage tanks have been specifically designed to prevent leakage or rupture, even in the event of collision or grounding.

These vessels are fitted with sophisticated systems that monitor the condition of the cargo and constantly check for leakage. They also use radar, global positioning and communications technology to constantly monitor their course, speed and position, and that of other vessels nearby. LNG ships' officers and crew undergo extensive training to meet internationally recognized standards.

Special articulated arms - expressly designed to handle the low temperature of liquefied natural gas - are used to transfer the product ashore. When loading or unloading operations take place, the ship and terminal is connected by means of a special communications system that enables cargo transfer to be shut down very rapidly in an emergency.
