Health, Safety and Security

The liquefied natural gas industry has a long and excellent safety record, due to strict industrial safety standards applied worldwide.

The Dragon LNG site has been designed, engineered and constructed to assure safety, environmental compliance and reliability. It uses commercially proven technology, equipment and materials that have successfully demonstrated safe performance in similar operating conditions at various installations through out the world. In addition the industry is highly regulated and our facility satisfies all UK and European codes and standards. It operates under the regulation of the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) and the Environment Agency (Wales). Regasification terminals have been operating in populated areas of the world for many years without a serious public incident and the terminal will be operated to the highest safety standards.

LNG ships are designed with double hulls. The cargo tanks are located away from the ship's hull to avoid cargo tank damage. Gas detectors, fitted with safety alarms are located between the steel hulls to continuously monitor for cargo leaks. In the past there have been over 56,000 Liquefied natural gas carrier voyages, covering more than 140 million miles, without a significant accident or incident, either in port or on the ocean in nearly 50 years. *

Dragon’s LNG terminal has close links with the UK Security Services to assure security of the ships, jetty and onshore liquefied natural gas facilities. Operation of the jetty complies with the International Maritime Organization’s International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS).

Dragon LNG is on a journey to safety excellence; we believe that all injuries are preventable- our goal is zero injuries. Dragon LNG lifesavers were identified because they represented the highest risk activities to Dragon LNG and its workforce and are based on experience gained from across the oil and gas industry. Our booklet is for all employees, contractors and partners across all our operations; it sets out our mandatory expectations for each activity and we are convinced that following these rules should help to prevent injuries and save lives.
