Company History

On September 17th 2002, Petroplus International submitted a planning application to Pembrokeshire County Council (PCC) for the development of a Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) Terminal at its site at Waterston, Milford Haven, for which planning permission was granted at the end of 2004.
In the period following granting of development consent the project gained further momentum and was formally named the Dragon LNG terminal. In November 2004, BG Group, a global natural gas business with its headquarters in the UK, and Petronas, Malaysia's national petroleum corporation, formally entered into the project.
The 20% shareholding of Dragon LNG was transferred from Petroplus International to 4Gas in 2006.
Dragon LNG terminal has been built on the site of what was formerly a Gulf Oil Refinery. Part of the site is still used for the storage of oil by Semlogistics although the refinery is no longer operational. Pembrokeshire has been a focus for energy in the UK since the 1960s and, until the 1980s, when two refineries and the power station closed, was home to four oil refineries, an oil storage facility and an oil fired power station.
The Dragon LNG Terminal has been designated as an economic key point. This designation is determined unilaterally by the UK government and stems from the fact that the Dragon LNG import terminal is expected to play an important role in the UK’s gas supply. The start-up capacity of the terminal can provide 5% of the UK’s current natural gas requirements and it is expected that the terminal will expand over time.
The terminal will has recently received its commissioning cargoes.
