What is Dragon LNG?

The Dragon LNG terminal is currently under development at Waterston, Milford Haven in Wales. The terminal will enable the import and storage of LNG Liquefied Natural Gas - a vital source of clean and reliable energy for the UK.

LNG is created by cooling natural gas to minus 162 degrees Celsius. The process reduces the volume of gas by 600, to 1, enabling the transportation of large quantities of natural gas (one of the cleanest of fossil fuels) over long distances by LNG ships/carriers.

Construction of the terminal is currently underway, for more information on the construction progress please view our construction update.

The Waterston site was formerly the Gulf Oil Refinery which operated from the mid-1960’s until 1997, when refining operations ceased. 4Gas acquired the site in 1998, when it purchased Gulf Oil Refining Ltd. UK from Chevron. Since that time the site has operated as 4Gas Tankstorage Milford Haven Ltd., providing storage and other services relating to the oil and energy industry.

LNG will be delivered to Milford Haven by LNG carriers, which will berth at one of the refurbished jetties. LNG will be pumped using the LNG pumps into the two storage tanks. From the storage tanks the liquefied gas will be pressurized, regasified and sent out to consumers via a gas pipeline connecting with the National Transmission System (NTS). The development would take place within the existing operational site and adjoining land that 4Gas owns.
