What Is Dragon LNG?
Our Liquefied Natural Gas import terminal at Waterston, Milford Haven in Pembrokeshire, Wales is able to receive, store and regasify Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) - a vital source of clean and reliable energy for the UK.
Our facility is the result of our international shareholders’ multi-million pound investment in the UK’s energy infrastructure. Dragon LNG plays an intrinsic role in supporting the UK’s energy importing strategy and our terminal can supply 6 billion cubic metres of gas per annum (bcma) to the UK’s National Transmission System (NTS), as and when required, to meet peak demand.
Liquefied natural gas is natural gas that has been cooled to form a liquid. This process reduces the volume of gas by 600:1 enabling large quantities of natural gas (one of the cleanest of fossil fuels) to be transported over long distances by liquefied natural gas carriers.
These specially constructed, double hulled ships are specifically designed to handle the low temperatures of liquefied natural gas. The Liquefied Natural Gas is pumped ashore into specially constructed storage tanks. When it's required it is regasified (by gently warming it from -160ºC, the liquid natural gas reverts to gas) and is then fed into the UK’s NTS, providing clean and reliable energy for millions of commercial and residential UK users.
